► Inspired-Inspirers goes Live!

Today, after a whole lot of waiting, testing and preparing, finally the very first issue of my latest project Inspired-Inspirers sees the light of day.

Inspired-Inspirers is a place for inspiring people to show the world who inspires them.

This project aims to show that all of those who continue to push boundaries and amaze us all in many ways are the same as us. They are inspiring as well as inspired, teachers as well as learners.

The website’s idea is simple. Once every two weeks a brand new issue is released showcasing 4 inspirers from all sorts of places and disciplines. At the same time, each of these 4 featured guests show us 4 individuals that have inspired or continue to inspire them to keep moving forward and improving.

Hope you enjoy it. Any comments of course are always welcome.

► Diseño Emergente 2.0

Diseño Emergente 2.0

First off I’d like to apologize for the size of the image, but I think in this case it’s worth it.

A little over two years ago, a small group of chilean design students decided to generate an online space that allowed design students from all its branches and schools to share their projects and create contact and collaboration networks that led to improve and enhance the national design scene. That website was Diseño Emergente (Emerging Design).

Now, with an insanely powerful base of monthly visitors and projects, Diseño Emergente is, without a doubt, the space where chilean (and slowly more latinamerican) design students converge and share, debate and display their ideas.

By chance of life, I had the pleasure of being one of the first few members of this community and for a while I was part of their staff, with whom to this day I keep a very close relationship.

This is why seeing progress like the one I’ll refer to is trully a reason for pride and satisfaction, knowing that in Chile there are people who dare to take the plunge, to go against the odds, and do it right, with love for what they do and the seriousness and responsability it deserves.

The reason for this slightly long post is to tell you about the release of Diseño Emergente 2.0,. A total review of the website’s interface and functions was made directly from the input of its own users and not just what the staff thought was right.

Even if you’re not a spanish-speaking person, I encourgae you to take a look at the portfolios section, I’m sure you’ll find a few things that’ll blow your mind.

For someone like me, who’s passionate about design, programming and interaction, this website really is a luxury. A whole bunch of new features that speed up your reading time, enhance relationships between users and also enhance the participation of 3rd party users from chilean student design.

So I’m just leaving the invitation open for you to check out the all new Diseño Emergente, ’cause even with its many haters, it’s impossible to deny its real cultural and design weight in chilean society.

My biggest congratulations, and deepest respect to the staff that daily tries to take chilean design to the next level. People like these are the ones that count.

► Bodies: The Exhibition hits Chile

For those of you who don’t know , Bodies: The Exhibition is an event created by german artist and scientist Gunther Von Hagens, where real human corpses preserved through the process of plastination are showcased to observe human anatomy at its core.

Yesterday I had the privilege of seeing this exhibition and even more, to see it with the lovely Paula, and without a doubt, this is a unique event.

With tours that go through each of the body systems, a disposition of the different body parts that allows thorough analysis of each, and assistance from young health related students; this exhibition is at first an obliged visit for anyone in the medicine field, but mostly it is an event that must be seen by anyone who wants to understand and be amazed by the wonder of the human body.

For further information visit Bodies’ official website.

► Cartel Se Busca. Fund-raising party

This is kind of a local event in Santiago, Chile. So if you’re not in the area maybe you won’t be interested in this post… Anyways…

Cartel Se Busca (Poster wanted) is a project where 100 different artists are asked to interveine a foldable poster commonly found outside small stores around the city, also known as palomas (pidgeons) here in Chile.

Now the organization of the project is throwing a party to raise funds being held tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow. Sorry for the short notice but I’ve had a few problems posting the news.

The event’s info is on the flyer, but just in case, the address is Santos Dumontt 480. It’ll cost $1000 chilean pesos ’till 1 AM, after which it’ll cost $2000.

Those who can, try to go support this excellent and creative iniciative.

► New Year’s Eve around the World

I’ve been kind of M-I-A around here due to vacational issues, so I haven’t been able to greet evryone properly for the New Year that just went by.

That’s why in an apologie-like kind of way I want to leave with these few visual testiomonies of the celebrations for New Year 2008.

First is a compilation made by TrendHunter consisting of 8 videos of the festivities in such diverse locations as Dubai, New York, Hong Kong and Sydney.

The second is a more curious one. A series of 360 degrees panoramic views of different events. Among others you’ll find images of Copa Cabanna, London, Taipei and Rio de Janeiro, just to mention a few.

I sincerely hope this year is full of success for everyone and brings many learnings and new experiences.

A big hug for everyone swinging by this website.

My homie Veggie is spreading the word about the release party being held for his NoFearToPaper project.

At the event you’ll be partying with a lot of design people and also be able to see all the little boxes that made the cut.

It looks to be quite an event so if everything goes well, I’ll be seeing you there.
